New Delhi: In yet another case where a dreaded gangster was calling the shots from Tihar jail, Delhi Police have arrested five sharp shooters of Karambir gang and averted an impending attack on the rival families of the alleged criminal.
The arrested accused are henchmen of Karambir who is currently lodged in Tihar jail. They were receiving instructions from the gangster.
Vinod, Amarjeet, Harvinder, Lokesh and Vijender were arrested by the Special Cell of Delhi Police on Friday.
"They were planning to avenge the brutal chopping off a hand of Karambir's mother by the rival Sanchit-Mintu gang.
"The accused were armed when they were nabbed near Karambir's residence in outer Delhi's village Ghevra," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Yadav.
In the second week of May, information was received that some members of Karambir gang were assembling frequently on his instructions. Karambir was eager to avenge the crime committed on his mother.
It was also learnt that recently, some of the members of Karambir's gang had attempted a carjacking in Kundli border area and had opened fire injuring the car driver.
While fleeing, one of the accused had suffered accidental bullet injury on his leg.
"On Friday, an input was received that Karambir was found giving instructions to his henchmen to carry out the revenge killings during the night of the same day. The instructions were clear; to eliminate every member of the rival gang who could be found unprepared for the onslaught.
"Without wasting time, a special team was constituted and the five accused were apprehended after a patient watch from the house of Karambir situated at Ghevra village of Outer Delhi," said Yadav.
Police recovered two .32 bore pistols and 21 live cartridges, two .315 bore single shot firearms and three live cartridges from them.
