DJB gangrape: Police give clean chit to water body officials

Delhi police today filed its probe report in a city court, giving a clean chit to three senior officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) who were accused of gangraping a private firm executive three years ago.

New Delhi: Delhi police today filed its
probe report in a city court, giving a clean chit to three
senior officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) who were accused
of gangraping a private firm executive three years ago.

"No sufficient evidence has been found in the probe
against the accused persons and based on the findings, the
accused cannot be prosecuted for the offences detailed in the
FIR," the closure report, filed before Additional Chief
Metropolitan Magistrate Ajay Kumar Pandey, said.

The crime branch of police, which probed the case,
favoured non-prosecution of Sarat Chander, Praveen Bhargava
and Ramesh Thakur, all senior officials of the water body.

The court, which has been critical of the slow-paced
police probe in the case, took the investigation report into
its records and fixed the matter for further hearing on August
2.

"Final report filed by ACP Jai Tirkey. Petitioner
(alleged victim) is at liberty to file protest petition or
objection, if any, on the next date of hearing when the report
would be considered," the ACMM said.

The woman, a senior executive of a private firm
engaged in contract work for DJB, had alleged she was raped by
the accused at her rented accommodation after being offered
pastry laced with drugs on October, 8 2006.

The three accused had also videotaped the crime with
an aim to blackmail the woman. She used to meet them in
connection with contracts awarded to the firm which employed
her, the complaint said.

Police, which initially did not register the FIR,
lodged a complaint after the woman approached a Delhi court,
which ordered in her favour.

A case of gangrape was registered with Malviya Nagar
Police Station in 2007 against the three DJB officials.
