Don't arrest AAP's Gulab Singh till October 14, police told

The Delhi High Court on Friday granted protection to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gulab Singh, who allegedly assaulted a junior engineer, from arrest till October 14.

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday granted protection to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Gulab Singh, who allegedly assaulted a junior engineer, from arrest till October 14.

Granting Singh anticipatory bail, Justice Ashutosh Kumar ordered Delhi police to not take coercive action against him, after he was accused of obstructing a public servant from discharging his duties during the demolition drive of an illegal building.

Singh, an MLA from Matiala constituency, approached the Delhi High Court after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the sessions court.

During the hearing, police sought custodial interrogation of Singh, saying a junior engineer was humiliated and assaulted at his instigation.

Senior advocate HS Phoolka, appearing for Singh, opposed the custodial interrogation request of police and told the court that the FIR lodged against him on July 21, was politically-motivated.

Singh was booked for obstructing public servant in discharge of his public functions, voluntarily cause hurt to deter public servant from his duty, assault to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty and criminal intimidation.
