DTC depot managers given two-month `free hand`

In order to enhance DTC`s performance in the wake of deteriorating trends in its operational revenue, the Delhi government on Friday decided to give a "free hand" to all depot managers for two months.

New Delhi: In order to enhance DTC`s
performance in the wake of deteriorating trends in its
operational revenue, the Delhi government on Friday decided to
give a "free hand" to all depot managers for two months with
respect to administrative decisions.

Depot managers of the Delhi Transport Corporation can
decide on the appointment of bus conductors and drivers on
contractual or daily-wages basis, frequency of the service,
proper utilisation of checking staff and other manpower.
They will now also be empowered with changing the
route of any particular bus in accordance with the financial
viability.

The decision was taken at a meeting convened by
Transport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely today to take stock
of the situation arising out of deteriorating trends of the
operational revenue and overall performance of the Corporation
as well.

Voicing concern over the financial conditions of the
DTC, Lovely said Depot Managers should own responsibility to
enhance operational revenue at the desired level.

"Two months time has been given to them to develop a
proper mechanism and improve their functioning in accordance
with their requisitions and situation as well," an official
release said.
After two months, Lovely himself would monitor the
outcome and performance of each depot in detail and in case of
any deficiency, the Depot Manager would be held responsible.

"The Depot Managers had to ensure that a bus should
cover its prescribed daily mileage of 200-250 km in accordance
with the trip schedule.Despite the fact that people of Delhi
prefer to travel in DTC buses, the DTC has not performing at
desired level," the release said.

Lovely also directed authorities to renovate the
depots to provide better working conditions to the staff and
all the standard floor buses be maintain in proper manner.
