I-T notices to NGOs associated with Kiran Bedi

The I-Tax dept has sent notices for scrutiny to two NGOs associated with former IPS officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi.

New Delhi: The Income Tax department has sent
notices for scrutiny to two NGOs associated with former IPS
officer and Team Anna member Kiran Bedi, who said she is open
to any investigation.

The I-T notices to NGOs Navjyoti and India Vision
Foundation sent on Saturday pertain to certain exemptions
enjoyed by them under various provisions of the Income Tax
Act, sources said.

The notices have been sent by the Exemptions unit of the
I-T department located in the national capital, they said.
Recently, another Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal had
received an I-T notice for alleged violation of service rules
and subsequent recovery of dues.

When contacted, Bedi did not attribute any motive to the
notices as she had "no evidence" to suggest so.

"The NGOs are professionally run. We religiously file the
returns. The papers are already filed with the department. We
are open to any query," Bedi said.

She said it was for the first time that the NGOs received
such a notice. "Both the NGOs received the notices yesterday.
Is it a coincidence? I am happy to be scrutinised," she said.

The social activist said the NGOs were audited for
ISO-9001 certification and everything has been streamlined.

"These are professionally run organisations. The
Chartered Accountants are always monitoring it. And now we are
in the process of attaining ISO certification. Till date, we
have done all our paper work in time," she said.
