New Delhi: A city-based NGO on Wednesday launched a
joint programme in partnership with an educational institution
to provide job-oriented training to under-privileged students.
The programme, titled `Koshish`, is a joint initiative by
NGO Prayas and the Institute of Computer and Finance
Executives (ICFE) and seeks to impart skill-based training to
financially-backward students and locate employment
opportunities for these students.
"Skill-based training is extremely essential in today`s
competitive society as only five per cent of India`s education
program happens to be skill based," General Secretary of
Prayas, Amod Kanth said.
"It is more important for the under-privileged sections
of society because their employment opportunities remain
limited in the private sector as many may not possess industry
specific skills. Moreover, their proper utilisation leads to
inclusive economic growth for the country," Kanth, who is also
a former Joint Commissioner of Delhi Police, said.
An MoU was signed between ICFE and Prayas as a formal
announcement of their association.
Students would be given industry specific training in
Banking, Finance, Soft Skills and Insurance (BFSI) along with
placement opportunities.
ICFE would bear 50 per cent of the cost and the rest be
met by PSU`s, corporate houses and philanthropists, said
Santosh Mangal, CMD of Nexgen Edusolutions, the company under
which the institution functions.
"Our main task is to identify the desirous youth whose
families` income is less than Rs one lakh and help them
acquire the skills required to be employed in different
fields," said Arun Grover, Director of Prayas.
