MCD seals 170 establishments in east Delhi in four days

Intensifying its drive against illegal commercial establishments, the MCD sealed 38 shops in the national capital, taking to 170 the number of such units targeted in the last four days.

New Delhi: Intensifying its drive against
illegal commercial establishments, the MCD today sealed 38
shops in the national capital, taking to 170 the number of
such units targeted in the last four days.

A liquor shop was also sealed in Patparganj in east Delhi
for "misuse" of the premises, officials said.

A drive against misuse of properties is going on in Madhu
Vihar in Patparganj for the last four days following a
directive from the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring
committee and a total of 170 units have been sealed so far.

The shops, which came into existence after February 2007,
were targeted as the Master Plan for Delhi-2021 only allows
establishments older than that in the area, they said.

"In a meeting with residents of Madhu Vihar last month, we
had asked them to file undertakings for their establishments.

Those who are able to show proof that their establishments are
older than February 8, 2007 are being spared," an MCD official
said.

In another drive against unauthorised construction in
Patparganj, two properties were sealed, officials said adding,
the action was taken with the help of police.
