Narottam Das gets Rs one crore compensation

Delhi's Social Welfare department Minister Sandeep Kumar on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs one crore as compensation to the widow of martyred CRPF officer Narottam Das who died in a landmine blast.

New Delhi: Delhi's Social Welfare department Minister Sandeep Kumar on Wednesday handed over a cheque of Rs one crore as compensation to the widow of martyred CRPF officer Narottam Das who died in a landmine blast.

The financial support was announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on February 24 and is being given from the Chief Minister's relief fund.

Kumar visited the bereaved family of Das in their Kheda Dabar residence today and handed over the cheque to Das's widow Meena Devi and assured them of all of support.

"We will ensure that his (Narottam Das) family is taken care of. After all Narottam laid down his life while performing his duty," said Kumar.

The area MLA Gulab Singh was also present on the occasion.

Narottam lost his life in a landmine blast at Gaya district of Bihar by suspected Maoists on February 24. The incident had claimed two lives and injured ten others.

The incident had happened near Nandai on Imamganj - Dumaria route while the paramilitary jawans and police personnel were moving during an anti-naxal operation.
