New Delhi: BJP was on Saturday non-committal about forming the government in Delhi following Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal`s decision to step down with the main Opposition saying that while it did not favour dissolution of the House, it was ready to face fresh polls.
"There is no over-enthusiasm about forming the government ... Right now, the ball is in the Lieutenant Governor`s court. Let him decide... We will happily accept any situation that (unfolds)," BJP Legislative Party leader, Harshvardhan, told reporters here.
BJP has 32 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. Lt Governor Najeeb Jung is understood to have suggested that President`s rule be imposed in Delhi after rejecting the outgoing AAP government`s recommendation that the House be dissolved.
The Kejriwal government resigned yesterday after the Jan Lokpal Bill was blocked in the Assembly by Congress and BJP MLAs.
Specifically asked whether BJP would accept an invitation by the Lt Governor to form the government, Harshvardhan said, "We will discuss. It is a hypothetical question... We will certainly discuss and decide with our senior leaders."
He added that there was no pressure from party MLAs about forming the government. As to whether the party was in favour of dissolving the House, he said, "Collectively, we are in a situation where no one wants to go to elections within three months."
He, meanwhile, clarified that the party would not support any group of MLAs in forming the government, saying that, "Delhi`s governance can`t be taken lightly".
Harshvardhan also hit out at Kejriwal saying the AAP leader now "aspires to become the prime minister" and was "fooling the poeple".
Sources said that BJP has adopted a "wait and watch" policy and is keeping its cards close to its chest as it explores options.
"We don`t have a strategy of our own. On December 8 itself, we had made it clear that we are not interested either in horse-trading or managing or manipulating numbers... I am willing to face the elections early next week as well," Harshvardhan said.
Sources added that while BJP would not engage in horse- trading as that could dent its image ahead of Lok Sabha elections, neither was the party likely to favour fresh polls in Delhi.
The best situation for BJP would be to act only after Lok Sabha polls. Referring to AAP, Harshvardhan alleged that it was acting as per a script written by a "corrupt" Congress to stop Narendra Modi from coming to power at the Centre.
"The AAP government in Delhi was part of a conspiracy by Congress, which knows it cannot fight Modi politically.
"Inke saath hai desi panja aur videshi haath (Their hand is with the Congress`s claw and the foreign hand)," he said.
Hitting out at Kejriwal, he said, "He is a specialist in telling a lie and fooling the people through use of media... (After having resigned as CM, he now aspires to be Prime Minister."
Kejriwal has not been able to give a satisfactory reply on the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act till today even as the Home Ministry probe against him is on in the matter, Harshvardhan added.
"The nation has a right to know how his party accepted donations from foreign organisations which create instability in other countries," he charged.
