New Delhi: The BJP-led North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) House on Wednesday witnessed stiff resistance from the Opposition over the issue of hike in toll tax rates for commercial vehicles entering the city, which comes into effect from July 1.
Congress councillor and Leader of Opposition Mukesh Goel vociferously condemned the proposed hike and, taking a dig at the BJP-led civic body, said, "The claims of good days ahead, made by the party right after the Lok Sabha elections results, have been exposed.
"You said good days were coming for the masses. Now you have burdened them with increased tax. Is this the sign of good days?"
The revised toll tax for taxi, tempo and other commercial vehicles has been revised from Rs 45 to Rs 65 per visit into the city.
For buses and other such vehicles, the rate has been revised to Rs 120 from Rs 85.
For six-wheelers, 10-wheelers and 14-wheelers, the revised rates are Rs 225 (from Rs 165), Rs 450 (from Rs 330) and Rs 1,120 (Rs 820), respectively, according to an NDMC statement.
Among other issues raised during the Standing Committee of NDMC today were procurement of disinfectants and pesticides for prevention of diseases.
Standing Committee Chairman Mohan Bhardwaj later told reporters that, "633 shops in Old Delhi`s Meena Bazar area which had not paid rent for the last few years have now approached the civic body for clearing the same."
