"Pinjra tod" campaigners, a group of girls from various universities in Delhi who have been protesting against the biased hostel rules for them, allegedly received threat call to withdraw the movement following which an FIR was registered against unknown persons here on Tuesday.

Two girls, who received the call from unknown number have also alleged that the caller identified himself as an ABVP member, however, the party has denied the allegations as baseless.

"Last night we got a call from an unknown number. The caller identified himself as a student of Satyavati college and member of the ABVP. He threatened to beat us up for pasting the campaign posters on the Wall of Democracy in North Campus and asked us to call of the movement," a DU student, who is part of the campaign.

The campaigners today gathered outside Maurice Nagar police station, demanding that an FIR be registered in this connection.

Police authorities said they have tracked the phone number through which the girls received the alleged call and an FIR has been lodged against unidentified persons.

"An FIR has been registered under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 509 (words, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC against unknown persons," said DCP (North) Madhur Verma.

"We have tracked the phone number through which the complainants claimed to have received the threat call. However, the cops haven't detained or arrested anyone yet.

"Investigation is underway. The claims, allegations and other crucial inputs provided by the complainants are to be verified," Verma added.
