RPF constable arrested for molesting Delhi woman

A 58-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable was arrested Friday on charges of molesting a woman on-board a Delhi-bound train, officials said.

New Delhi: A 58-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable was arrested Friday on charges of molesting a woman on-board a Delhi-bound train, officials said.

Rajpal Singh, who is posted at Delhi's Kishnaganj railway station, was held at Old Delhi railway station following a complaint from the 22-year-old woman.

A railway police official said the crime took place inside a women's coach of the train in which the RPF constable was deployed to provide security to female passengers.

"The victim was molested while travelling to Delhi from Dehradun in Mussoorie Express train Friday morning," he said.

The RPF constable was arrested after the woman filed a molestation case against him at the Old Delhi Railway Police station.

Later, Singh was presented before a city court, which sent him to judicial custody.

According to the official, the woman lives with her family in Delhi and works with an NGO in the city. She had gone to Dehradun for some work. She boarded Delhi-bound Mussoorie Express from Dehradun Thursday.

"The woman alleged that when the train left Gajraula railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district around 5 a.m., the RPF constable touched her inappropriately. When she objected to it, the RPF constable entered into an argument with her and forced himself on her," said the official.

The woman immediately raised an alarm after which other female passengers overpowered Singh and did not let him leave the coach. He was handed over to the authorities after the train reached Old Delhi railway station.
