Delhi government on Thursday announced that it will provide a compensation of Rs one crore to the families of city-native defence and paramilitary force personnel killed while on duty.

New Delhi: Delhi government on Thursday announced that it will provide a compensation of Rs one crore to the families of city-native defence and paramilitary force personnel killed while on duty.

The compensation will also be given to the families of Delhi Police personnel, city-based home guards, civil defence personnel killed while discharging their duty, Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia said while presenting the budget for the financial year 2015-16.

"The government has decided to give a compensation of Rs one crore to their families. While Rs 50 lakh will be paid immediately, the remaining half will be kept in a deposit scheme which will be released to next of kin after 10 years," the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Sisodia said the government has also decided to give ex-gratia relief to farmers at the rate of Rs 20,000 per acre for crop damage caused due to climate-inflicted reasons.

Registration of these workers (farmers) shall be undertaken under the Unorganised Workers Social Security Act by setting up workers' facilitation centres across Delhi. These centres shall carry out registration, guide workers for availing various benefits and provide one window service to them, he said.

Sisodia also proposed Rs 927 crore for financial assistance to about five lakh persons under various schemes, including old age pension scheme, financial assistance to differently- abled persons, and financial assistance to women in distress, in the year 2015-16.

"The land for construction of new old age homes has been acquired at various locations... Hostels for college-going visually-impaired male and female students will be constructed at Kingsway Camp and Timarpur respectively," he said.

Sisodia also said that a mega project for setting up an integrated complex for mentally-challenged persons at Narela has been planned, while Shramik Vikas Mission has been launched to ensure payment of notified minimum wages, better welfare facilities to construction workers and their families.

Noting that there were about 65 lakh beneficiaries of National Food Security Act in Delhi, he proposed that daily sale from all Fair Price Shops should be done through PoS Device during the current year in order to ensure more transparent distribution of food grains to eligible households.
