New Delhi: The national capital has had less rain than usual this winter, the met office said Thursday, but it forecast showers in the evening, which would bring down the mercury as well.

"This winter season we have experienced fewer showers. There is a deficit by 20 percent to the usual amount of rain that we have," an India Meteorological Department official told reporters.

The seasonal rains that usually start by January end were delayed.

"Perhaps that`s why in February alone we have seen 279 percent more rain," the official informed.

Wednesday remained cloudy but dry. However, Delhiites may see a few showers Thursday evening.
"There will be a partly cloudy sky in the day. Rain and thundershowers are likely in the evening and night," the official said.
The minimum temperature Thursday morning was 10.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above average for this time of the year. The maximum is likely to hover around 23 degrees Celsius.
