New Delhi: Three youth, including one wearing a skull cap, were handed over to police by worshippers when they were clicking selfies inside the premises of Hanuman Mandir complex in Connaught Place here.

The police, however released them within minutes after a background check.

As Delhi remains on high alert after various terror strikes across the world and in view of the coming Republic Day celebrations, worshippers at the temple raised an alarm as soon as they saw the youth clicking selfies thinking that they were taking pictures of the temple premises.

Two of the youth were Hindu while their Muslim friend was wearing a skull cap, said a police official.

As an argument broke out between some of the worshippers and the youths, someone called the policemen stationed within the premises.

"They took the youths to New Delhi area's Connaught Place police station from were they were released after brief questioning," said a police official.
