New Delhi: In yet another trouble for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, an FIR was lodged against Aam Aadmi Party legislator Surinder Singh on Tuesday for allegedly beating and manhandling a worker of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
The incident took place last night in Tughlaq road area when a team of NDMC officials was doing routine checking and had apprehended an e-rickshaw driver to check his documents.
Police said a fourth grade NDMC employee, Mukesh, was allegedly beaten up by the MLA when Mukesh along with an official team was trying to clear the footpath occupied by the hawkers.
According to a police official, Singh, a MLA from Delhi Cantonment area punched beldar Mukesh on his face after the NDMC employee continued with his job despite being stopped by the AAP leader.
An FIR has been registered in this connection on the charges of beating, manhandling and obstruction of official work.
The MLA has been booked under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the Indian Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Surinder Singh, was not available for his comments on the issue.
A police official said the MLA also made alleged derogatory remarks against NDMC employees by saying that they took bribes from hawkers to allow them to run businesses on roadsides or on footpaths.
