New Delhi: Two unidentified men on monday opened fire at a businessman who was carrying Rs three lakh in Govindpuri area of South Delhi, police said.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 4:30 PM when Vivek Sood, alias Bitto (46), a resident of DLF Gurgaon, was traveling with a bag with the cash in his car. The money was meant to be distributed as wages to the employees of his garment factory in Tughlaqabad Extension.

When Sood stopped his car for some work at Aadi Marg near a Punjab National Bank ATM, two men on a motorcycle drew up from behind and knocked at his car`s window. When the victim stepped out of his car, the attackers tried to take away the bag, which was resisted by Sood following which a scuffle ensued, said a senior police official.

In the meantime, the bag was thrown around somewhere. Annoyed by Sood`s fight, one of the attackers pulled out a firearm and fired at him. The bullet hit him in his stomach, following which the assailants fled from the spot, he said.

Hearing the gunshot, a large number of people gathered at the spot. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be stable, police said.

The bag containing the money was not found on the spot, the police official said adding "however, we are not sure whether the assailants decamped with it or somebody else from the crowd picked it up".
