Uber driver tries to forcibly kiss woman passenger

In another incident that has put question mark on the policies of Uber apropos of safety of women passengers, a driver registered with the web-based US taxi firm tried to forcibly kiss a lady.

New Delhi: In another incident that has put question mark on the policies of Uber apropos of safety of women passengers, a driver registered with the web-based US taxi firm tried to forcibly kiss a lady.

Notably, the city government had banned all app-based taxi services following the rape of a 25-year-old woman by a cab driver of the Uber taxi company in December last year. However, these cabs continue to ply on the city roads.

The recent incident, which took place last month, has come to light after a brother of the victim mentioned it on Facebook post on May 30. He also published the response he got from the company.

As per the post, the brother wrote to the Uber: “My sister booked the cab of your company from Gurgaon. Driver Vinod tried to forcibly kiss her. A complaint has been registered with the Uber company, but no response has come as yet.”

The company responded to the post, saying: “The company is questioning the driver an there is zero tolerance policy towards such crimes.”

The incident took place more than six months after a woman was allegedly raped by Uber taxi driver Shiv Kumar Yadav.

Yadav allegedly raped the woman on the night of December 05, 2014 when she was heading back home in north Delhi's Inderlok area in the cab he was driving.

The chargesheet was filed on December 24 -- 19 days after the rape and the cognizance of the chargesheet was taken by a magistrate court on January 05.

Yadav was arrested on December 07.

The news had triggered protests against Uber, which pushed the company to change its policies to assure safety to women.
