New Delhi: The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on Thursday decided to increase water tariff in the capital by 10 percent. The tariff increase will be effective for households which consume more than 20,000 litres of water per month.

Further details are awaited on when the tariff increase will come into force.

The tariff hike comes less than a month after the Delhi government announced free water for Delhiites.

As per the decision announced by the Arvind Kejriwal government, households consuming upto 20,000 litres of water every month will not have to pay any consumption charges. Sewerage charge has also been waived off for such households.

When Congress was in power in Delhi, the DJB had cleared a proposal to implement 10% hike in water tariff on January 1 each year.
