New Delhi: Environment scientists Saturday
launched a climate research network that would help enhance
interaction among researchers of the key topic.

The announcement of formation of the Indian Climate
Research Network was made on the final day of a national
conference of climate researchers.

The network is a joint initiative between IIT-Delhi,
IIT-Madras and Centre for Science and Environment (CSE).

"The network, which we have jointly laid the foundations
of is unique because it is a cross sectoral initiative
which will act as a bridge between climate researchers and the
larger climate community," said Sunita Narain, Director, CSE.

The two-day National Research Conference on Climate
Change, which culminated in the formation of network, was the
first effort by climate scientists to reach out to new
researchers through a call for submission of papers.

"The response to the call was overwhelming and has
brought together on one platform all the leading scientists
working in the field of climate research," Prof Ambuj Sagar of
IIT Delhi told reporters.

The announcement of the network comes ahead of the May
launch of National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate
Change, which is part of the government`s ambitious plans to
tackle global warming.
