Yavatmal (Maha): A full-grown leopard was found dead in Darwha forest region of Yavatmal district, forest officials said here Wednesday.

The carcass of the leopard, aged about 12 years, was found in village Hatani along the Malegaon footpath jungle track under the Darwha forest region yesterday, Chief Conservator of Forest Vasant Gurme said.

"A post-mortem of the animal was conducted and the viscera has been sent for lab test," Gurme said.

He added that the veterinarians who conducted the post-mortem said the feline could have died following an infection of the urinary tract. "However, the exact cause of its death could be known only after the lab test report is received," Gurme added.

It was just three days back, a decomposed carcass of a 10-year-old leopard was found in the jungle near village Brahmanath. One of the legs of the big cat was found severed from other parts of the body giving a suspicion for the possibility of a poaching attempt, the forest officer said.
