Goa polls: Cong`s first list to come out next week

Congress would announce the first list of its candidates for Goa assembly polls next week.

Panaji: Congress would announce the first
list of its candidates for Goa assembly polls next week, a
senior leader said here on Saturday.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President, Subhash
Shirodkar, said the screening committee and the central
election committee would be meeting next week to finalise the
first list.

Rubbishing speculations by the media about possible
names, Shirodkar said party had not decided on any of the
candidates yet.

"On January 24, the screening committee will go through
the list of aspirants and subsequently central committee will
meet to decide the first list," Shirodkar said.

"The formal announcement would be made from Delhi," he
added.

Shirodkar admitted that four prominent Congress leaders
are seeking more than one tickets for their family members.

Churchill Alemao has asked for four tickets, while
Pratapsingh Rane, Atanasio Monserratte and Ravi Naik have
demanded two tickets each.

Shirodkar said the party would examine their demands "on
merit".

As to the talks with NCP for pre-poll alliance, Shirodkar
said decision was yet to be taken, but the Sharad Pawar-led
party would be given 6-8 seats. "The alliance is going to
happen," he added.
