Panaji: Goa`s six most-visited public spots would be lit as part of an initiative to showcase how designed lighting installations can add value to urban spaces.
"It is basically to show how well lit public spaces could be. We will use a lot of latest technology, low-energy technology, colour changing and dynamic lighting," Joachin
Ritter, member, Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA), Germany, told reporters here.
Tagged as `Lights in Goa`, the installations-cum-workshop is organised by Institute of Indian Interior Designers` Goa Region Centre (IIDC-GRC) and PLDA, Germany.
The five-day event starting from March 14 will have eight international lighting designers sharing their experiences and thoughts on theme and how urban spots aided by smart illumination can aid in economic activity.
Six spots in Panaji Kala Academy jetty, Fransisco Gomes Luis Gardens, Kala Academy promenade, Mahavir Garden, the Children`s Park and the Entertainment Society of Goa building, have been chosen to be the part of this international lighting designers` project.
"This is the first time that an international PLDA architectural lighting design workshop is being organised outside Europe," Kapil Surlakar, Technical Head, Lights in Goa, told reporters.
He said that public spaces like gardens and parks are perceived to be unsafe after dark.
"The perception can change with smart and intelligent illumination of such sites, encouraging the common man to enjoy public spaces even after dark," Surlakar said.
Louis Ritter, a lighting expert from Europe, said such exercises will also educate authorities and they can think of illuminating these spaces with design permanently.
Responding to a question, California-based expert Annie Militeio said lights without glare and disturbance to the plants and animals are the basic concept behind such
installations.
