Panaji: A leopard that had strayed into the high-security naval base `INS Hansa` near here, was caught by officials of Navy and Goa forest department on Friday.
The big cat was sighted earlier this week at the base which is a home for several flying squadrons, and a trap was laid yesterday.
"The animal was trapped inside the cage during wee hours on Friday...The animal was subsequently handed over to the forest department," a Naval official said.
According to the official, the feline is about 3-year-old and is in good health.
"The presence of these big cats has been a threat not only to the service personnel working and residing at INS Hansa but also to the civil populace residing in and around Dabolim and Bogmalo," a Naval release said on Friday.
In February last year, another leopard was sighted and handed over to the forest department at the same location, it said.
