Responsibility to be fixed in drugs missing case: Naik

Goa Home Ministry will fix the responsibility of the huge amount of drug pilfered from the state police custody, the minister said on Wednesday.

Panaji: Goa Home Ministry will fix the
responsibility of the huge amount of drug pilfered from the
state police custody, the minister said on Wednesday.

State Home Minister Ravi Naik said that he will seek
detailed investigation report from the police once their
inquiry into the missing drugs from the malkhana (police
custody) is over.

"The responsibility has to be fixed in this matter.
All the police in-charges who headed Anti Narcotic Cell during
last decade will have to be probed," Naik said.

Police-drug peddler nexus scam has hit Goa police
after Israeli drug dealer Yaniv Benaim alias Atala was caught
on camera confessing about police selling him the drugs which
were filched from the malkhana.

Six policemen including Inspector Ashish Shirodkar
were suspended after Atala’s revelation, of which five are
arrested and sixth is absconding. Crime branch had initiated
an inquiry into the entire nexus.

The Home Minister said that it was responsibility of
all the incharges to check the amount of drugs registered in
malkhana and actual amount existing in it.

The department will now check the conduct of all the
officers including current police sub inspector Sunil Gudler,
who is holding the charge.

The police had claimed that out of 280 kg of charas,
24 kg was missing.

The prosecution opposing bail application of the
arrested policemen had said that even some packets were found
unsealed and attacked by white ants.

"Even if white ants have destroyed the drugs, it
should have been brought on record. You cannot have lethargy
in such cases," Naik said.

He said that the home department will not interfere in
the police investigations but will surely seek a final report
to ascertain what went wrong, which let the drugs from lockup
being sold in the market.
