Kathlal: By-election for the Kathlal assembly constituency began here on Monday with polling stations recording over 15 percent voting till 11 am, district officials said.

According to police, voting at 208 polling stations was going on peacefully. There are over 1.65 lakh voters for the constituency.

The by-elections were necessitated due to death of sitting Congress MLA Gautam Zala.

BJP has fielded Kanu Dabhi against Congress's Ghelabhai Zala.

The contest for the Kathlal seat became more competitive with Zala's son Bharatsinh contesting as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the Congress party.

The counting of votes would be done on September 16.
