Govt seeks CJ`s advice on use of Gujarati in HC

The government today said it has sought advice of Chief Justice on a Gujarat government`s proposal to authorise use of Gujarati in proceedings of the state High Court.

New Delhi: The government today said it has sought advice of Chief Justice on a Gujarat government`s proposal to authorise use of Gujarati in proceedings of the state High Court.

"Advice of the Chief Justice of India has been sought on the proposal (to use Gujarati in HC proceedings)...The proposal shall be processed for approval of the competent authority after advice of CJI," Law and Justice minister Salman Khurshid told Lok Sabha in reply to a question.

In response to another question, he said the Bar Council of India had proposed a new draft Code of Professional Standards, Ethics and Etiquette.
"This Code provides a general guide for ethical standards to be adhered to by members of the Bar whether practising individually or as a law firm and whether engaged in litigation or transactional/corporate work," Khurshid said.
