Ahmedabad: A 26-year-old incident has
come to haunt senior Gujarat IPS officer Kuldeep Sharma, who
has been booked by the state CID for murder, kidnapping and
criminal conspiracy in a case related to alleged killing of
five members of a Kutch family by the police.
Based on a complaint by one Jusab Juma Mokha of Kutch
district alleging that five members of his family were killed
by some policemen in 1984, an FIR was today lodged against
Sharma, the then SP of Kutch, by CID, police said.
The 1976-batch IPS officer has been posted as Managing
Director of Gujarat Sheep and Wool Development Corporation
since November 2009.
Mokha had early this year sent an application to
Director General of Police (DGP) S S Khandwawala stating that
Sharma, along with other policemen and some others, had
allegedly killed five members of his family, including father,
elder brother and uncle, they said.
Taking cognisance of the plea, CID (Rajkot Zone)
booked Sharma and others under IPC Sections 120B (criminal
conspiracy), 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping), 368 (wrongful
confinement), 506 (criminal intimidation), among others. A
special CID team would further probe the case, police said.
Mokha had also alleged that after the killings, Sharma
and others had filed false cases against him and other family
members.
Sharma was unavailable for comment.
