‘Modi formed Shah Comm to avoid Lokayukta’

Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil alleged that setting up of Justice (retd) Shah Commission by the Gujarat government is a "ploy" by Chief Minister Narendra Modi to avoid a Lokayukta probe.

Ahmedabad: Leader of Opposition in Gujarat
Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil on Sunday alleged that setting up of
Justice (retd) Shah Commission by the Gujarat government is a
"ploy" by Chief Minister Narendra Modi to avoid a Lokayukta
probe.

The Modi government on August 17 had appointed a panel
under the Commission of Inquiry Act to probe the corruption
charges leveled against it by Congress.

Congress had almost two months back submitted a
memorandum to President Pratibha Patil, claiming the BJP
government has indulged into corruption and favoritism towards
select industrial houses.

"(Gujarat) Chief Minister has appointed a commission to
inquire charges against him. Through this ploy he is making
desperate effort to take his corruption cases outside the
purview of Lokayukta. This shows that he is the most corrupt
person in the country," Gohil alleged.
"The day when people will raise their voice against the
highly corrupt Gujarat government, it will have no place to
hide," he said.

In an unprecedented move, Governor Kamla on Friday
appointed Justice (retd) of Gujarat High Court R A Mehta as
the state Lokayukta bypassing the Modi government.
Dismissing the state government`s reservations, Gohil
said the BJP was against the appointment of Lokayukta even
when there is a broad consensus on Lokpal in Parliament.
