Oil spill off Mumbai coast didn`t affect fishing in Guj

The oil spill caused due to collision between two ships off Mumbai coast, has not affected fishing activities in Gujarat sea as more than 3,000 boats from different ports of the state began fishing from Monday.

Vadodara: The oil spill caused due to collision between two ships off Mumbai coast, has not affected fishing activities in Gujarat sea as more than 3,000 boats from different ports of the state began fishing from Monday.

"The period of official monsoon ban on fishing (from June 10 to August 15) ended yesterday and fishing activity has begun," president of Indian Fishermen Association, Veljibhai Masani said.

Former president of Porbandar Boat Association Jivan Jungi said about 500 boats from Porbandar ventured into sea from to day for fishing.

Meanwhile, district administration in union territory Daman bordering with Gujarat state, has issued an advisory asking people not to consume fish for several days.

The advisory follows after the oil spill near Mumbai Harbour more than a week ago.
