Prajapati case: CBI grils retired adnl DGP Mathur

The CBI grilled former additional DGP of the State O P Mathur for over six hours, in Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case, agency sources said.

Ahmedabad: The CBI on Monday grilled former additional DGP of the State O P Mathur for over six hours, in Tulsiram Prajapati fake encounter case, agency sources said.

Prajapati, a key witness in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case, was gunned down in a police encounter on December 28, 2006 near Ambaji town in North Gujarat.

CBI, which is now probing Tulsi case along with Soharabuddin Sheikh encounter case, had questioned O P Mathur in 2010. But it was for the first time that Mathur was summoned in Tulsi case.

Mathur after coming out of the CBI office refused to say anything about his questioning.

Mathur was heading the CID(Crime) when Soharabuddin Sheikh encounter case was being probed by the state agency. Mathur had denied the permission to investigating officer V L Solanki to question Prajapati with regard to Sheikh fake encounter case. Later, Prajapati was also killed in a fake encounter.

Meanwhile, CBI has called Additional DGP Geetha Johri for questioning tomorrow.
"CBI has summoned Additional DGP Geetha Johri tomorrow, who was the supervising officer in Sheikh encounter case in 2007," sources in the CBI said.

CBI also questioned constable Ajaypal Yadav on Sunday. He was posted in Anti-Terrorist Squad(ATS), when Tulsi Prajapati was killed. He is believed to be very close to IPS DG Vanzara, who is now behind bar in Soharab encounter case.

The SC had transferred the investigations into Prajapati encounter case to the CBI on April 8 last year with a direction to complete the probe within six months.

Recently Supreme Court granted fourth extension to the CBI till June 30 as deadline to file the charge sheet.

The Prajapati encounter was earlier probed by the state CID which had registered an FIR last year in Ambaji police station. Seven policemen including IPS officer Vipul Agarwal were arrested in the case.
Three suspended IPS officers, Vanzara, Rajkumar Pandiyan and Dinesh M N, who are accused in the Sohrabuddin encounter case, are also accused in the Prajapati case.
