Surat: An expert team from the United States has arrived here to control an ongoing fire at a well owned by the government-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC).

ONGC hired US-based oil and gas blow out control experts of Boots and Coots firm to contain the fire, which entered the fourth day on Tuesday.

Fire tenders have been struggling to douse off the massive blaze that broke out on April 18 afternoon following an explosion in the well due to leakage in gas pipeline.

The fire had left 12 people injured. A tower near the well was reduced to ashes on April 19 as fire tenders toiled to put off the blaze.

An investigation into the incident is on. It could take 20-25 days to douse off the flames, sources said.

This is the third incident of fire to be reported from the site this year.
