Controversial Haryana Minister Anil Vij Friday questioned the rationale behind police organising a marathon to raise awareness on 'violence against women' and said such measures were only for "publicity" and the officers should do some practical work on this issue.

Ambala: Controversial Haryana Minister Anil Vij Friday questioned the rationale behind police organising a marathon to raise awareness on 'violence against women' and said such measures were only for "publicity" and the officers should do some practical work on this issue.

Thousands of girl students, police personnel and members of various social organisations had participated in the marathon race organised yesterday by state police in Ambala which was flagged off by Commissioner of Police O P Singh.

However the Health Minister in a 'WhatsApp' message said, around 30,000 people had taken part in this race, but he could not understand how women would get security because of it.

Stating that women could not be protected through such campaign, Vij said, the officers instead of fulfilling their responsibilities have been indulging in publicity.

"The police officers should do some practical work on this issue," he said.
