Chandigarh: Panchayats in Haryana will get cash incentives if they persuade residents in their jurisdiction to pay their electricity bills on time, a senior official said here Wednesday.

The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to launch an incentive based scheme for panchayats for recovery of revenue, its managing director Sudhir Rajpal said.

"In case a panchyat makes efforts for timely payment of electricity bills by persuading consumers in its village, it will get five percent of the amount that has increased from the present level of recovery," Rajpal said.
He said 55 village councils in Hisar and Bhiwani circles had agreed to the scheme, which is being extended in all 11 districts under the jurisdiction of the DHBVN.
For the last two months, he said, monthly revenue collection had crossed a record Rs.4 billion (Rs.400 crore). He said revenue could go up even higher this month.
