Six Armymen swept away in river, one dead

An Army man died and five others swam to safety after they along with two army vehicles were washed away in a river in Naraingarh area of the district.

The armymen went to Sahazadpur area for an exercise
yesterday when suddenly the water gushed in the river Beghna
from its catchment area in Himachal Pradesh following
overnight rains, Naraingarh Sub Divisional Magistrate O P
Sharma said.

The six armymen, who were sleeping in a truck and a
jeep, were washed away along with the vehicles, he said.

Four armymen managed to swim to safety, while another
hung himself to a tree and saved his life, Sharma said.

The body of the sixth armyman was found about five kms
away.

The identity of the victims was not immediately known.
Further details are awaited, Sharma said.
