Jind: Tension on Saturday gripped Killa Mohalla here when members of a community installed a religious idol on a plot of land here leading to objections by another community which claimed that the land belonged to them.
Some people today installed a religious idol on a plot in front of Tanga chowk following which people from other community objected, claiming that it was their land, Deputy Superintendent of Police Vijendra Balhara said.
By evening, the community which had installed the idol gathered there in large numbers and claimed that the land belonged to them, he said.
Meanwhile, members of the other community registered a complaint at city police station, he said.
On receiving information about the issue, SDM Yogesh Mehta reached the spot along with police and attempted to resolve the situation.
The DSP said that since the matter is sensitive, efforts are on to solve the issue with discussion between the two communities.
Heavy police force has been deployed at the spot and the matter is being investigated, he added.
