Hisar: A wanted criminal was today killed in a police encounter while he tried to escape along with his gang members.
"Manjit, a resident of Hisar, was a member of Vinod Kana Gang and was involved in a number of criminal incidents of loot, murder, attempt to murder, at various places in the state," said Inspector General police Hisar Range Anil Rao while talking to reporters at Uklana Mandi, about 50 km from here.
Acting on a tip off that three members of the gang were going to Nehla village to attend a marriage ceremony, police tried to stop their car following which the trio started firing from the car in order to escape, the IG said.
In the retaliatory firing, Manjit was killed while his aide Mandeep, belonging to Kharkara village in Rohtak district, was injured and has been admitted to Agroha Medical College for treatment, police said.
Their third accomplice Sachin surrendered before the police, the IG said.
A number of cases were registered against the trio in Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
