Shimla: BJP's Himachal Pradesh unit on Monday launched a campaign to enroll 15 lakh members in the state with all senior party leaders enrolling new members at several camps.

Former chief minister P K Dhumal, accompanied by Rajya Sabha member Vimla Kashyap, local MLA Suresh Bharadwaj and General Secretary (Organisation) Pawan Rana, launched the campaign in Shimla and participated in the membership drive which started from Totu near Shimla, followed by the district court at Chakkar, Baldeian, Sanjauli and Shimla.

Dhumal and other leaders enrolled the members and also renewed the membership of old members.

The membership would be for five years time and would have to renewed again after five years, Dhumal said.

A large number of people gathered at the camps set up for the purpose and the response was overwhelming, Dhumal said.

The party leaders right from the grassroots level are engaged in membership drive. The party aims to enroll at least 4 lakh youth members.

"The target is huge in a small state with a population of 70 lakh but we will achieve it," said BJP MLA and former state unit president Bharadwaj.
