Officials summoned over tree felling in McLeodganj

Acting tough against the illegal felling of trees in McLeodganj, the abode of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has summoned top government officials next month.

Shimla: Acting tough against the illegal felling of trees in McLeodganj, the abode of Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama, the Himachal Pradesh High Court has summoned top government officials next month.

A division bench of Chief Justice Mansoor Ahmad Mir and Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan on Tuesday directed the officials of Kangra district to appear in the court on July 6.

The officers include the divisional forest officer, the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police of Kangra.

The court took suo motu cognisance of a letter written by Ghazala Abdullah regarding the illegal felling in McLeodganj in upper Dharamsala, some 250 km from the state capital.

The court also received another complaint with a compact disk as evidence alleging that its directions were not being complied with and trees were being felled.
