World`s tallest idol of Lord Hanuman unveiled

The world`s tallest idol of Lord Hanuman was unveiled at the Jakhu temple here by Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal in the presence of film star Abhishek Bachchan, his sister Shweta Bachchan Nanda and other members of Nanda Trust.

The 108-feet tall idol was installed at the highest peak of the town. As the legned goes, Hanumanji had rested on Jakhu hill for a while here after taking "sanjivini booti" from Deoronagiri and an ancient temple was already in existence for a long time.

The chief minister and other dignitaries offered worship to Lord Hanuman and recital of bhajans marked the occasion.

Dhumal thanked the Nanda Trust for installing the statue at the "most appropriate" place and said it was a "unique gift" to devotees who throng this place in large numbers throughout the year.

Shimla was known as an international tourist destination because of the fact that it was summer capital of British India but now a new chapter has been added to the history and would also be known for the tallest idol of Lord Hanuman, he added.
