Amritsar: A special beating retreat ceremony took place on Saturday at the Wagah Border on the occasion of the 69th Independence Day.

Various programs like sword fighting and cultural dances were exhibited by performers at Wagah Border as part of Independence Day celebrations.

The crowd cheered on loudly as the Indian soldiers marched in the tradition 'stomping' manner.

The 'lowering of the flags' ceremony is a daily military practice at the Wagah border. The Border Security Force and the Pakistan Rangers have jointly followed it since 1959.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the national flag and delivered a rousing speech to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
