After PMK, MDMK wants German in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools

After PMK, another NDA ally MDMK on Saturday appealed to the Centre to restore teaching German as a third language in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.

Chennai: After PMK, another NDA ally MDMK on Saturday appealed to the Centre to restore teaching German as a third language in Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.

Recently, the Union HRD Ministry had instructed Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) schools to teach Sanskrit instead of German as was the practise before.

Echoing the PMK's stand on this issue, MDMK chief Vaiko condemned the Union HRD Ministry's move as a bid to "Sanskritise", education.

He alleged that after the BJP took office it had been engaged in "imposition" of Hindi.

"Ever since it took office, the BJP has been giving more importance to imposition of Hindi and is implementing a Sanskritisation plan," he said.

Sanskritisation has been going on in several spheres, including developing computer based games to enable learning of Sanskrit words, he alleged.

In continuation of such a plan, now Kendriya Vidyalalya schools have been asked to switch over to Sanskrit, Vaiko said, adding, "I condemn this and urge the Centre to restore teaching German in the place of Sanskrit."
