Central IAS officers association to discuss Gamlin issue

As the controversy over the appointment of Delhi's acting chief secretary continues, the central IAS officers' association has called a meeting on Monday to discuss the matter.

New Delhi: As the controversy over the appointment of Delhi's acting chief secretary continues, the central IAS officers' association has called a meeting on Monday to discuss the matter.

"The association has decided to hold its executive committee meeting on May 25, 2015 to discuss all the issues affecting the governance and administration, and ultimately public policies, programmes and public delivery systems," said Sanjay Bhoosreddy, secretary of the body that represents over 4,600 IAS officers.

The controversy over the appointment of IAS officer Shakuntala Gamlin as the acting chief secretary will also be discussed during the meeting, official sources said.

The central IAS officers association will be issuing a resolution on the issue after its meeting, they said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has opposed the responsibility given to Gamlin by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung and accused her of favouring power distribution companies.

There are 4,619 officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) working across the country.

In its meeting held yesterday, union territories cadre IAS officers association had expressed its strong objection in the matter saying "the character assassination of a civil servant in public" was unacceptable.

Kejriwal had also raised the issue of Gamlin's appointment while addressing a gathering of autorickshaw drivers and their union leaders some days back here.

"In Delhi, the central government is trying to run the government unconstitutionally through the Lt Governor. Let the Dehi government function independently," Kejriwal has said in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the matter.

Gamlin, a 1984 batch IAS officer of union territories cadre, has been appointed as acting chief secretary due to absence of leave of K K Sharma. Gamlin is Principle Secretary (Power) in Delhi government.
