New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Friday said the fine amount of Rs 50 lakh each to be deposited by convicts Vikas Yadav and his cousin Vishal Yadav in the Nitish Katara murder case would be disbursed among the victim's mother and governments of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh for expenses incurred by them during the pendency of the trial.
A bench of justices Gita Mittal and J R Midha imposed a fine of Rs 54 lakh each on Vikas and Vishal and directed that out of Rs 50 lakh each, Rs 25 lakh from the fine deposited by each of the two convicts be disbursed to the Delhi Government towards prosecution, filing and defence of litigation, administration of courts and witness protection in the case.
The court also said the fine amount is to be deposited with the trial court and of this, Rs five lakh would be given from the deposits of Vikas and Vishal each to the Uttar Pradesh Government towards investigation, prosecution and defence of the case.
Apart from this, Rs 20 lakh from the fine amounts of both the convicts would be disbursed to Katara's mother Neelam Katara towards the costs incurred by her in pursuing the matter, filing petitions and applications and defending the cases after the murder of her son, the court said.
It also said the rest of the fine amount of Rs four lakh each imposed in Vikas and Vishal and Rs 20,000 fine on third convict Sukhdev Pehelwan shall be forwarded to the Delhi Legal Services Authority to be utilised under the Victims Compensation Scheme.
The court also directed Vikas to pay Rs 2.39 lakh to the Delhi government towards his medical bill in AIIMS, security deployment in the hospital and taxi fare.
Vishal was also directed by the court to pay Rs 15,39 lakh to the Delhi government towards provision of security in seven hospital where he visited for his treatment during custody and taxi fare.
