New Delhi: In good news for the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, cyclonic storm 'Nada' over over southwest Bay of Bengal has weakened into a deep depression, the Indian Meteoroligcal Department (IMD) said on Thursday.
By 11:30 am today, Nada had moved west-northwestwards at a speed of about 12 kmph and lay centred at about 290 km south-southeast of Chennai and 210 km southeast of Puducherry.
The Met department predicts that Nada is very likely to continue to move west-northwestward, weaken further gradually into a depression during next 24 hours.
The depression is expected to cross north Tamil Nadu coast between Vedaranniyam and Puducherry, south of Cuddalore by early hours of tomorrow.
Under the influence of the weather system, most places along the coast will receive light to moderate rainfall, while isolated places may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during next 24 hours.
Rains will be accompanied by squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph along and off Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts during the next 24 hours.
As sea condition will continue to be very rough, fishermen are advised not to venture into sea during the next 24 hours.
