New Delhi: In a bid to tighten the noose around Dawood Ibrahim, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has asked the Enforcement Directorate to launch a probe into the underworld don's properties in India.

As per reports, Dawood Ibrahim and his associates possess a number of expensive properties in Mumbai, some in Worli sea area.

The Enforcement Directorate has reportedly asked the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to submit details apropos of the gangster’s properties in the city.

The don reportedly owns a hotel, fltas on Juhu Tara Road in Santacruz West, properties in Worli, Andheri East, Mahim, among others.

Iqbal Mirchi used to run Dawood's operations in India, a report has claimed.

Mirchi, who died on August 14, 2013 in London, had sold four sea-facing properties in Mumbai for more than Rs 1,000 crore and had invested the amuont in properties in Europe.

The ED has reportedly tracked down Mirchi's properties in a number of countries, including Cyprus, Dubai, the United Kingdom, Morocco, Spain, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. And the agency is contemplating seeking help from foreign governments for crackdown on the properties.

Earlier this month, Home Minister Rajnath Singh had assured that India won't rest till underworld don Dawood Ibrahim is brought back from Pakistan.

Making a statement in the Lok Sabha, Rajnath Singh said Pakistan was bound to trace Dawood but had failed to do so despite overwhelming evidence given to it.

Rajnath Singh had made the statement following a controversy over his junior minister Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary's reply in the house earlier that location of Dawood was unknown and extradition proceedings against him would start once he was traced.

Dawood is wanted for 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and a red corner notice has been issued against him.
