Heavy rains continue in Karnataka

Bengaluru: Heavy rains will continue in coastal and central parts of Karnataka for the next 24 hours, the Met office said on Friday.

"Moderate to heavy rains likely in most places over coastal areas and many places in Kodagu, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan districts of the state," the Met office said in a weather bulletin.

As strong winds with speeds of 45-55 kmph are likely along and off the coast, fishermen were cautioned against venturing into the deep sea.

Rains will be light to moderate in southern and northern regions of the state with partially cloud sky and windy conditions.

Cloudy sky, strong surface winds and one or two spells of rain is the forecast for Bengaluru and Kolar districts, with 27 degree and 20 degree Celsius temperatures.

"Though southwest monsoon remains active, there was respite from heavy rains on Thursday in coastal, southern and northern regions of the state, giving relief to the people reeling under incessant rains, disrupting normal life," a Met official told IANS.

Rainfall occurred across coastal and south interior and north interior areas of the state on Thursday, with 9 cm at Agumbe, 8 cm at Mani, Mangaluru and Bantwal in Dakshina Kannda district and 7 cm at Kottigehara in Chikkamagaluru district.
