Former prime minister Manmohan Singh will on Wednesday inaugurate a two-day convention of Congress students' wing NSUI here which will also see party vice-president Rahul Gandhi address its concluding session.

New Delhi: Former prime minister Manmohan Singh will on Wednesday inaugurate a two-day convention of Congress students' wing NSUI here which will also see party vice-president Rahul Gandhi address its concluding session.

Singh would inaugurate the marquee event, 'Drishtikon', at 11 am at the Mavlankar Hall here.

Gandhi would address the delegates on May 28, the second day of the convention. "He will also launch the NSUI mobile App and award the high performing district units," said a statement here.

A 'Charter of Demands', including for reforms in the educational and student welfare system, will be passed during the convention, a spokesperson said.

"Topics ranging from the communalisation of education to the politics of environment in the climate constrained world will be discussed during convention.

"National Students' Union of India (NSUI) president Roji M John will define the role of the body in the current political scenario," the statement added.

Around 1,000 delegates, including state office bearers, district presidents and elected university union representatives, are expected to attend the convention.

Eminent personalities, including Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Contemporary Studies, Prof Mohangopal, JNU Prof Aditya Mukherjee and Deputy DG, Centre of Science and Environment, Chandra Bhushan, will address the different sessions at the meet.

Organisers said that several resolutions on the organisational, political and educational fronts are expected to be moved that would define the future course of NSUI.
