Modi govt is 'jhooth mooth ki sarkar': Manish Tewari

New Delhi: After Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's "suit-boot ki sarkar" remark at Ramlila Maidan rally last month, the phrase has got many versions from various leaders.

The latest one comes from Congress leader Manish Tewari.

While taking a dig at PM Narendra Modi, Tewari said, "More than suit-boot ki sarkar, this government is jhooth-mooth ki sarkar."

Accusing the BJP of being pro-corporate, Tewari maintained, "Last one year has demonstrated that the government is by the corporates and for the corporates."

Earlier, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley claimed his government to be "soojh-boojh ki sarkaar" while Congress leader Raj Babbar's version was "suit, boot, loot ki sarkar".

"If at all there’s a Bharat Ratna that can be awarded for incompetence and all around failure, it should go to this government," Tewari further said.

Tewari's comments came a day after Congress launched a multi-pronged attack against the Narendra Modi government on the eve of its first anniversary.

Leading the charge, former finance minister P Chidambaram slammed the Modi government for not carrying out major reforms despite having adequate numbers in the Lok Sabha and gave zero marks to the issue of job creation, as he spoke of worrying signs in the economy.

Seeking to dampen the celebratory mood of the NDA government on completion of one year in office, Chidambaram suggested that the tenure so far was a missed opportunity as it failed to carry out reforms despite the BJP securing majority on its own.
