Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu is extremely unfortunate and added that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) would provide immediate financial assistance to the people.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said the devastation caused by Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu is extremely unfortunate and added that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) would provide immediate financial assistance to the people.

"The devastation caused by Cyclone Pam in Vanuatu is extremely unfortunate. I share the sorrow and pain of all those who have been affected," Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

"MEA will provide immediate financial assistance to people of Vanuatu. We stand shoulder to shoulder with Vanuatu in this hour of grief," he added.

Vanuatu, located in the South Pacific Ocean, was on Saturday hit by 'Cyclone Pam' that travelled south after passing over Vanuatu and reached New Zealand on Monday. The damage from the category five storm to the island nation has been extensive and is still being assessed.
